hoon, hai, hain, ho - the most common verb in Urdu.
Present tense of hona (to be)
There are four forms in present tense, matched to the pronoun. There is no gender variation in present tense - only number and person.
میں ہوں
main hoonI amہم ہیں
hum hainwe areتم ہو
tum hoyou (casual) areآپ ہیں
aap hainyou (formal) areیہ ہے / وہ ہے
yeh hai / woh haihe is / she isیہ ہیں / وہ ہیں
yeh hain / woh hainthey arePast tense - and gender appears
Past forms vary by gender of the subject. Masculine: tha/the. Feminine: thi/thin.
میں خوش تھا
Main khush thaI was happy (m)میں خوش تھی
Main khush thiI was happy (f)وہ خوش تھے
Woh khush theHe/they were happy (m)وہ خوش تھیں
